Easy to Find – Money Maker

The Sony Walkman – this brings back good memories. Walking down the street, listening to the latest MC Hammer cassette tape. I thought I was cool! I remember when I bought my first Sony Walkman. It was the latest and greatest technology, and I could either listen to FM radio or whatever tape I could carry. When I was done listening to the first side I simply flipped it over to side B. Technology sure has advanced since then, but the Sony Walkman is still in high demand!

Sure there are “newer” digital versions of a Sony Walkman that allow you to play MP3’s, but those are not the ones that sell well on eBay. The vintage Sony Walkman (from the 80’s) is what’s HOT! There are a few reasons why people want these beautiful electronics again, and it may not be why you’d think. I have sold many of these on eBay before, and just out of curiosity, I asked the buyer why they wanted an old Sony Walkman. Here is what they said:

1. Battery Life: A couple of buyers stated that they only wanted it for the FM radio and that the Sony Walkman has the best battery life.

2. Collectors: I had some buyer tell me that they are just a fan of older technology, and they wanted to add it to their collection.

3. Party: One other buyer told me that they are going to an 80’s party and wanted it as an accessory.

I’m sure there are other reasons why people want these, but whatever the reason is, I am happy to sell it to them! Let us take a look at some completed listings:

As you can see, the Vintage Sony Walkman is worth some real money! So where do you find these? The answer is, EVERYWHERE! A lot of people don’t understand the value of the Walkman, so they sell them for $1 at garage sales or $2 at thrift stores. Even some people on eBay will do a buy it now for under $5.

Make sure you are paying attention to the model of the Walkman, and utilize the Completed Listings feature. Not all Walkman’s are worth the same amount, and of course, the older, the better. Try to stay away from any cassette Walkman’s that have a digital display. Those are too new. Lastly, make sure it works. You may have to buy a cassette tape from Goodwill for $.50, but it will be worth it. The last thing you want is to have an angry buyer!

Hot Item to Sell on eBay – Finish Quantumatic Powerball Refills

img_0317

Here is a hot item, and a consistent seller on eBay.  The Finish Quantumatic Powerball Refills. These are dishwasher detergents that have been discontinued and replaced with Finish Powerball Tabs.  These Powerball refills require you to use an expesive dispenser system.  That is the good thing for us.  Customers that have already bought the dispenser system may have nowhere to get the refills in stores, so they look online.

Finish PowerballI actually found these by mistake one day while I was looking for Tom’s Brand Toothpaste.  While browsing the aisle, I noticed that someone had tried to hide a whole bunch of these on the bottom shelf behind a stack of mouthwash.  My trained eye immediately picked up on the out-of-place item.  There can be only two reasons why someone would want to hide these.  One, they did not have the money to buy them, or two, they wanted to do some research to see if they would sell on eBay. Luckily, I was able to use my smart phone and look up the complete listings for this item.  Right then and there, I loaded up my cart, and bought everyone they had in stock.

I found the Finish Quantumatic Powerball Refills for $1 at Big Lots.  I sold them on eBay in a lot of 20 for $66. Below is a snap shot of a listing that sold.

As you can see this items was sold for $66.  Here is the breakdown of my profit.

Net Profit of $25.23!

Remember, when looking for discontinued items, the biggest profit is going to come from items that are consumed or have to be refilled.  Once the customer runs out of your product, they will come back for more.

Hot Item to Sell on eBay – Red Bull Cola

IMG_0320.JPG

When I’m asked, “Where do you find items to sell on eBay?”  My reply is, EVERYWHERE!  You just need to know what you are looking for.  So, what are you looking for?  To start, look for discontinued items.  A perfect example is Red Bull Cola.  I found this gem a few months ago, and I have already sold well over 1,000 cans!  Red Bull Cola was discontinued as of May 2011, and can be found in many places like Dollar General and Big Lots.  They usually receive a new shipment weekly, but it moves fast, so make sure you are aware of the days the store receives their shipment.

On eBay, this item is in high demand, and has a 95% sell through rate. I have most success selling them in a lot of 20 cans.  Below is a snap shot of one of my ended listings.

Over the past few months this item alone has brought in over $550 in profit!

When looking for discontinued items it is best to do your research before you go out and stock up on anything.  Check out eBay’s completed listings to make sure this item will sell!

Hot Item to Sell on eBay – Motrin IB 300 Caplets

img_0316

Its was Sunday, July 10th 2011.  I was walking the around the health and beauty section of the Costco Wholesale store, when I heard one of the employees say, “Move those back to receiving, because they are being DISCONTINUED for a package remodel”.  Did you say discontinued?  That was my que to buy!  I jumped on my phone and quickly looked at the completed listings for Motrin IB 300 Caplets.  It was a winner.  I went home, posted the listing that night, and within minutes, it sold!

The next week was spent contacting Sam’s Club and the Costo Warehouse store to see who still had stock.  I literally went to every store in Indiana that still had stock, and bought them all.  I ended up with 203 boxes.  Last night, July 17th, I sold my last box.

Picture 2Here is a break down of my profits:

That’s a profit of $6.80 per box, and a grand total of $1,380.40 in one week of selling the product!

The Motrin IB 300 Caplets can still be found at Sam’s Club and at the Costco Warehouse stores (sorry if you live in Indiana, since I already bought them all).  Check on Samsclub.com to see if a location around you still has some left, or call your local Costco.  Also, you may start seeing these sold at Big Lots, so keep an eye out.

(Update) This deal is long gone, but these types of eBay sales keeps me going!  The more you learn… The more you earn…
